OUR HISTORY
As some of you may know, Hair Extraordinaire has been in business for well over 40 years. It began as a typical barbershop owned by, Pearl Harbor survivor, Frank B. Yanick, Sr. While his son Frank, Jr. (Skip) attended college to receive his business degree, he supported himself through school by working for his father as a barber. Years later, Frank, Sr. retired from the business with his legacy intact, creating a new opportunity for his son. In 1980, Skip began the transition of barbershop to a family hair salon. Named by his beloved mother “Mrs. Mary”, Hair Extraordinaire had come to life.

In 1984 as the salon began to thrive, Skip hired me to be a part-time shampoo assistant. At 15 years old I had my first job—not knowing if this was something that I would like or even have the ability to do. I later realized that even a teenager is able to smile, touch and talk to someone at the same time! Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I really loved this job, after having found it daunting and demanding as a teenager. Now 39 years later, my very first job has turned out to be my only job.

In 2000, after establishing a unique family business with an amazing staff, Skip decided to venture on to new opportunities. He chose to “hang up his shears” and begin a career in the mortgage business. This provided me with the opportunity to manage the salon.

A NEW BEGINNING
After managing the salon for seven years, in 2007 Skip offered to sell Hair Extraordinaire to me—and I accepted. I am proud to own a business that I have virtually grown up in. It has taught me so much about the business world and has enlightened me to the goodness and loyalty in people.

I am grateful to Skip for allowing me the privilege to continue working with such an amazing group of women. These women have become my longtime friends that I adore. Their talents, love, and support humble me.

Brenda, Jen, Monica, Skyler, and I look forward to serving all of you in the future, and thank you for your many years of loyalty to us.
